UPT Promotes European Climate Action in Reykjavik and Timișoara
Published: Aug 4, 2025 Reading time: 2 minutes Share: Share an articleAs part of the EUKI project, Politehnica University Timișoara (UPT), visited Reykjavik University, Iceland, between July 16–22. This visit included participation in the“Closed Cycles and the Circular Society 2025 – The Power of Ecological Engineering” conference, and meetings with university members to prepare for the upcoming EEA programme with projects on climate mitigation, renewable energy, and circular economy.

The conference brought together researchers, experts, and decision-makers from around the world. Participants were united by an interest in the transition to a circular economy and the development of sustainable solutions. The UPT delegation promoted the Support Center for Climate Action as a best practice model in Southeastern Europe. They also worked to establish international partnerships, and find new collaborators in the field of climate change adaptation.
The UPT representatives presented the ELCA project and the Support Center for Climate Action during the poster session, with the title: “Bridging policy and practice: empowering local climate action through knowledge, collaboration, and community support in Eastern Europe.”
On July 18, UPT representatives organised the workshop: “Empowering local climate action: bridging policy, practice & people through resilience planning and nature-based solutions”, which addressed topics and themes related to the ELCA project.
The event provided a valuable platform for knowledge exchange in ecological engineering, resource-efficient use, and the development of integrated tools for climate resilience planning. Through participation in workshops and networking sessions, UPT representatives had strengthened cooperation with international stakeholders from academia, while also highlighting Romania’s efforts to enhance institutional capacities for local climate action.
This activity supports ELCA-EUKI’s mission to promote green transition by strengthening local capacities, disseminating good practices, and promoting transnational cooperation in response to current climate challenges.

To strengthen international visibility and cooperation, the Support Center for Climate Action will host the international Land4Flood 2025 conference in Timișoara, between September 3–5, 2025.
The conference theme is: “Harnessing nature-based solutions for resilient land and flood risk management in the anthropocene.”
The event will take place at the Library of Politehnica University Timișoara in collaboration with the IWRA LAND4FLOOD Task Force, with financial support from Project 39PHE/2024, funded by UEFISCDI Romania.
